ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mariam Forgan, born in Cape Town South Africa,  studied a BSc in Dietetics at the University of the Western Cape and is a Registered Clinical dietitian who has worked at well known hospitals such as Redcross War Memorial Children's Hospital, Tygerberg Academic Hospital and now at Kingsbury Life Hospital.

Mariam also decided to study further after heading the Bariatric Division at Tygerberg Hospital. She holds a special interest in Life Coaching, the emotional relationship with food as well as addressing patterns and habits which mould a persons behavior, and has integrated this into her practice.

For as long as she can remember Mariam has always been interested in 'wellbeing' as a WHOLE. Which included  Soul, Body and Mind.

She herself has walked a journey of forgiveness, self love and healing, having had an emotional relationship with food and used to be a former binge eater.

She can relate and connect with people easily because of this.

She has assisted many people with understanding and overcoming their own self sabotaging relationships with food because of this experience.

Her office is based opposite the Kingsbury hospital in Claremont. She works closely with many doctors including Endocrinologists, Fertility specialists, G.P’s, Gynaes, Gastroenterologists and even Psychologists.

By working so closely with such a diverse population of patients, and offering support groups for diabetics, emotional eaters, bariatrics and weight loss, she has learnt a lot about the dynamics that effect a persons lifestyle and how dietary habits, belief systems, ones emotional state of mind as well as environmental factors are all interconnected and contribute to a persons overall wellbeing, and ultimately their relationship with food .

This is why she does not refer to herself as a dietitian, and perhaps her own made up wording, but as a 'Lifestyle Interventionist for Sustainable Change.
